Peter Simonis is a software developer at Topicus’ Healthcare division. He works in two teams, where he supports and helps develop various products. “Most of my work involves programming, but these days, as teams, we’re also responsible for the infrastructure, together with the Cloud team. I’m also a Scrum Master, which gives me the chance to build even more connections between teams and processes.”
Why Topicus
"I’m given the space to keep growing. For example, I’m currently working in two teams. The great thing about my role is that I work with different products in both teams. You can reuse a lot of things and see different sides of healthcare. One team works on access components for systems, while the other team focuses on data access for healthcare providers. This creates a lot of dynamism and interesting challenges.
What I enjoy most is the variety in my work. There’s always room for growth, and there’s always something new to discover!"
What I’m proud of
"I’m proud of the culture within the organization. What I especially appreciate is the openness and room for innovation and new ideas. I also value the informal atmosphere and the fact that there are many social activities organized outside of work, such as the monthly Topi get-togethers and game nights. These kinds of things strengthen the bond with colleagues. I’m also an active member of the Topidogs Slack group—a group where dog lovers share photos and videos of their pets. My dog Isabel makes regular appearances on the channel!"
A lot has changed during the years Peter has been working at Topicus. “When I started at Topicus in 2009 after finishing my studies, it was a relatively small company. Now the company is bigger, but the freedom and room for personal input have remained. It’s remarkable to see how Topicus has become such a national player over the years. Everyone has had some connection with it at some point, whether through the systems we develop or the services we offer. When I walk the dog at lunchtime on a work-from-home day in my yellow Topicus jacket, I regularly hear: ‘Hey, Topicus!’ That’s definitely something to be proud of.”
