Nicole Egberts is a software developer at Topicus’ Finance division. Here, she works on software for the mortgage market. Her role goes beyond just programming. “It’s more than just writing code. I’m involved in liaising with analysts, ensuring everything is properly documented, and writing release notes. Everything we develop must integrate seamlessly into the systems. That’s a challenging process.”

“Despite the size of the company, the culture is small-scale and personal. I work in a small team, so communication lines are short. I also find the complexity of the mortgage market incredibly interesting. It’s a subject I love to dive into. What also appeals to me is the space for camaraderie and social activities. The culture here is open and collegial. It’s not just work, but also fun. For example, we have a monthly TopiBorrel with colleagues from across the organization, and there are initiatives at the division or team level, such as a board game night. And then, of course, there’s also a fantastic end-of-year party. Furthermore, I experience a lot of freedom and trust, and I’m given the flexibility to structure my weeks as I see fit.”
Nicole looks forward to her future at Topicus. “If I ever find myself wondering whether I want to do something else, I know that within the company I’ll have every opportunity to develop further and take on new challenges. I see Topicus not only as a place where I’ve found my job, but also as a place where I can grow as a person.”
This is what I’m proud of
“On my first day at work, I posted a message on LinkedIn: ‘Starting today, I’m a proud Topician!’. That’s how I felt then, and that’s how I still feel now. I’m especially proud of the unique culture. From your first day on the job, you receive a fun goodie bag and a red carpet is rolled out for you. During your first month, you go through onboarding, where you also get to know other new colleagues outside your own team. That immediately gives you the feeling that you belong to a family.
Another thing I’m proud of is that I work in a blended team. This means that within the Finance division, I collaborate (online) with colleagues in Vietnam. Every morning, we have an online stand-up with Vietnam. We exchange information so we’re up to date on each other’s progress. I was a bit worried about a language barrier at first, but once you talk to each other more often, you get better at working together. I now find that collaborating is really enjoyable.”
