Carolien Gutmanis is a service desk agent at ParnasSys, a product of Topicus’ Education division. As a first-line agent, she is the first point of contact for customers with questions or issues. “In the morning, I answer phone inquiries, and in the afternoon, I review the tickets that have been created. It’s a dynamic role where I have direct contact with customers. That makes the work really enjoyable.” Carolien is now retired but remains on board.
“For me, Topicus is more than just a workplace; it’s a place where I can develop myself and where there’s room for initiative. It’s not just about working and going home. All kinds of things are organized, like the monthly get-togethers, the TopiConf, and the end-of-year party. These events are done on a grand scale, making Topicus feel like more than just an employer. I also feel the freedom to take the initiative myself. For example, I thought it would be fun to organize a whiskey tasting. At the monthly get-together, I floated the idea and found fellow enthusiasts to help bring it to life.”
The atmosphere is strong not only at the company level but also at the team level. “There are peak periods a few times a year. After that hectic time, it’s time to relax together. Then, as a team, we organize a fun outing like an escape room or a dinner. I find that sense of connection very valuable.”
Carolien is proud of the personal development she’s undergone in recent years. “When I started at ParnasSys a few years ago, I began by answering the phone and helping customers. Soon after, I was given the opportunity to become the coordinator of the first-line service desk and was put in charge of scheduling. This gave me the chance to develop myself. ”
Even during her retirement, she remains an important link within the team. “I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience to the new generation of employees. It’s the variety, the room for personal development, and the great team atmosphere that motivate me to keep working. I’m the first person to continue working at Topicus during my retirement, and that’s something I’m secretly quite proud of.”
