Paul Manders has been an analyst at Topicus’ Healthcare division since 2022, where he acts as a daily liaison between end users and the product team. “My work revolves around translating the wishes and needs of stakeholders—such as general practitioners, specialists, and regional staff—into concrete solutions that work for everyone. From defining a need to guiding the refinement process, we work with the development team to ensure we’re all on the same page. That multidisciplinary collaboration is what I love most about my job.”
In addition to his role in product development, Paul supports the service desk with complex issues and participates in internal product kick-offs. “We start with an idea from the domain and, together with developers, consultants, product owners, and the design team, draft an initial plan. Then we involve healthcare professionals in a working group to build the best MVP together. That direct contact with healthcare practice is energizing.”

Paul has a background in biomedical sciences and was looking for a place where he could make an impact in healthcare. “I wanted to contribute to better care, but not only after years of research. At Topicus, we release updates every four weeks. That means you constantly see the practical results of your work.”
The team spirit and the freedom to seize opportunities really stand out. “The atmosphere is welcoming; everyone makes time for each other. You’re given responsibility quickly here. For example, after three months, I was given the opportunity to become a Scrum Master, even without prior experience. I was trusted to grow into the role with the help of training through Topicus University. You don’t see that combination of opportunities and support everywhere.”
Paul is also enthusiastic about collaborating with international teams. “I regularly support a team in Vietnam. It’s challenging in terms of content and incredibly fun culturally. It gives you a fresh perspective and helps you learn to collaborate even better.”
I’m proud of this
The project that stands out by far for Paul is the implementation of a feature within the communication app between healthcare providers and patients that Paul’s team is building. “The old messaging system was outdated and would sometimes get overloaded. We’ve implemented a major overhaul that improves communication between healthcare providers and patients within this feature.”
Paul played a central role in analyzing, breaking down, and testing all components. “As a team, we’ve truly created something that helps healthcare providers and improves the patient experience. This project showcases what Topicus excels at: smart technology, collaborating with users, and just getting things done.”
